• Yankees walk off Red Sox, 5-4, as Aaron Judge goes hitless

    It was Josh Donaldson's ground ball in the 10th that gave the Yankees their 16th walk-off win of the season and clinched a playoff spot for the Yankees on Thursday night, but it was Aaron Judge's long fly ball in the bottom of the ninth that everyone will remember. Donaldson's grounder to shortstop gave the Yankees a 5-4 win over the Red Sox, but much of the 43,123 at Yankee Stadium left disappointed.
    For the second straight night, Judge did not homer and he remains just one shy of the American League and Yankee record of 61 in a single season set by Roger Maris 1961.

    NEW YORK - Aaron Judge fell a few feet short of a record-tying 61st homer, hitting a 404-foot drive caught just in front of the center field wall, and the New York Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox 5-4 Thursday night on Josh Donaldson's 10th-inning single to clinch their sixth straight playoff berth.
    Judge had walked three times and struck out once before he came to the plate with the score tied 4-all in the ninth. The crowd of 43,123 was on its feet for every pitch, and Judge drove a 2-2 fastball from Matt Barnes just to the right of straightaway center.
